Point your iPhone up. IFO labels what is actually overhead — live aircraft, satellites, and nearby drones — drawn in augmented reality over your camera, exactly where they really are.
That slow-moving light at dusk almost always has a name. IFO's job is to tell you which one, in about three seconds — so you can rule out the mundane before calling it anything else.
Live ADS-B positions, updated continuously. Tap any plane for its callsign, airline, type, registration, altitude, speed and heading — and a photo of the actual airframe passing over you.
Orbits propagated on your own device with SGP4, the model professional trackers use. The ISS, Tiangong, spent rocket boosters and thousands of catalogued objects, each tagged with whether it is currently lit by the sun and therefore visible to your eye.
IFO listens for Remote ID, the broadcast drones over 250 g must transmit in the US, and labels the ones it hears with make and model from the FAA's own database. Reception only — it never transmits.
Around 2,900 catalogued stars, plus the Sun and Moon at their true size in the sky and the five naked-eye planets. An unfamiliar light needs something to be checked against.
IFO will not tell you that something is aliens. It tells you what is known to be overhead so the known things can be ruled out. Usually the answer is a regional jet at 24,000 feet or a rocket body tumbling in sunlight — and knowing that with certainty is the point.
It is equally honest about its blind spots. Aircraft data is community-collected, so coverage varies by region, and IFO says so on screen rather than showing an empty sky and letting you assume it is quiet. Some military flights mask themselves. iPhones can only receive the Bluetooth flavour of drone Remote ID, so many drones will not appear. The full list of limits is here, and it is in the app too.
No accounts. No analytics. No ads. No tracking SDKs. No backend of ours at all. Your precise location never leaves the phone — the air-traffic query is snapped to a coarse grid first, guaranteeing the transmitted point sits within about 8 km of you. The camera feed is never recorded or uploaded.
